Drop Heartbreaker to Huskies, 3-2
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University
volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to the visiting Michigan
Tech Huskies on Saturday (September 18). The Cardinals won games
one and two by counts of 30-26 and 30-24. Tech battled back to
tack the final three games by scores of 30-23, 30-28 and 15-12.
Sophomore Rachel Pelhank
(Temperance, Mich./Bedford) tallied a match-high 21 kills
in the five-game match, while freshman Amy Howard
(Cass City, Mich.) notched 44 set assists on the evening.
Howard also had nine service aces to lead all players. Senior
Desiree Betts (Livonia, Mich.) managed
a team-high 19 digs to aid the Cardinal cause.
Michigan Tech was led by Taryn Franznick’s
20 kills. Jamie Orlowski recorded a match-high 21 digs, while
Amanda Mackenthun added a match-high 55 assists.
SVSU falls to 2-12 (0-2 GLIAC),
while Tech moves to 3-9 (1-2 GLIAC). The Cardinals return to the
court on Sunday (September 19) with a home match against Northern
Michigan University. Play is set to begin at 2:00p.m.
