Northern Michigan Tops Cards, 3-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team fought hard but lost a 3-0 decision to the nationally ranked (#9) Northern Michigan Wildcats on Sunday (September 19). The Wildcats won by scores of 30-23, 30-20 and 31-29.
     Sophomore Rachel Pelhank (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) led SVSU with eight kills for the three-game set, while freshman Amy Howard (Cass City, Mich.) notched a team-high ten digs and a match-high 24 assists. Senior Desiree Betts (Livonia, Mich.) chipped in with nine digs and three service aces on the afternoon.
     Northern Michigan was led by Aimee Dewitte and Andrea Smith, with 18 kills and 16 kills, respectively. Ashley Kiel added a match-high 13 digs.
     SVSU falls to 2-13 (0-3 GLIAC), while Northern ups their record to 10-1 (2-1 GLIAC). The Cardinals return to the court on Friday (September 24) with a road match against Hillsdale College. Play is set to begin at 7:00p.m.
