Cardinals
Compete at Quincy Tournament
QUINCY, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball
team opened their season on Friday (August 29) and Saturday (August
30) at the Quincy (Ill.) University Tournament. The Cardinals
returned home with a record of 0-4, dropping matches to Missouri-St.
Louis (3-0), Northwest Missouri State (3-1), South Dakota (3-0),
and host Quincy (3-0).
The Cardinals dropped the set to
UMSL by counts of 30-18, 30-18, and 30-13. NMSU took the set versus
SVSU by counts of 21-30, 30-23, 30-25, and 30-23. South Dakota
won by scores of 30-22, 30-19, and 30-19, while Quincy closed
out the weekend with scores of 30-18, 30-22, and 32-30.
Senior Sara Lieber
(Davison, Mich.) played in all 13 games for the Cardinals,
recording 30 kills and 57 digs for the four-match set. Sophomore
Susan Zeigler (Armada, Mich.) provided
her teammates with 99 assists on the weekend, while junior Desiree
Betts (Lakewood, Mich.) provided 41 digs to
the Cardinal cause.
The tournament dropped the Cardinals
record to 0-4. The Cardinals return to action on Friday (September
5) at the Madonna University Tournament.
