Cards Battle Lakers in Four-Game Set

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision to Grand Valley State University on Saturday (October 4). The Lakers won game one by a score of 30-20, before the Cardinals won game two by a count of 30-28. Grand Valley came back to close out the victory with a 30-21 game three win and a 30-24 game four win.
     Sophomore Susan Zeigler (Armada, Mich.) recorded a match-high 25 digs for the Cardinals, while freshman Rachel Pelhank (Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) contributed a team-high 18 kills and twelve digs. Senior Sara Lieber (Davison, Mich.) racked up eleven kills, 13 digs, and 24 assists to aid the Cardinal cause.
     Grand Valley State’s Tracy Kirk recorded a match-high 20 kills without an error, while Sabrina Bird (19) and Melissa Reneski (10) contributed double-figure kills. Reneski also recorded a team-high 17 digs in the victory.
     SVSU falls to 2-15 (0-8 GLIAC) on the season, while Grand Valley State ups their record to 14-5 (6-1 GLIAC). The Cardinals return to action on Friday (October 10) at the University of Findlay. The match is set to begin at 7:00p.m.
