Cardinals Fall In Five

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University Lady Cardinals couldn't hold off the Wayne State fury as the Cards dropped a five game match on Friday (Sept. 20), by the scores of 27-30, 30-20, 27-30, 30-22, 15-6. The second-straight loss drops the Cardinals record to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC, while Wayne State improves to 10-2, 2-0.
     Despite the tough loss, three Cardinals poured in double-doubles. Senior Jamie Reed (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) guided the team with 45 assists, while pouring in 18 digs, sophomore Kelly Stoltz (New Stanton, Penn.) posted 13 kills and 17 digs, and junior Valarie Lyczkowski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) finished with 11 kills and 11 digs.
     Freshman Chelsea Erickson (Spring Lake, Mich.) had a game-high 19 digs, while sophomore Kelly Samalik (Freeland, Mich.), slammed a team-high 15 kills.
     Saginaw Valley State will host Hillsdale Saturday (Sept. 21) at 4:00 p.m.
