Stanton Tabbed To Head
Volleyball Program
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley
State University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Griz Zimmermann
announced the hiring of William Stanton as volleyball coach.
Stanton has served as head coach at Mott Community
College the last four years where he led the Bears to a 116-90
record, including a 40-22 conference mark. During his time at
Mott, the Bears never finished worse than fourth place in the
MCCAA.
“I am very excited about this opportunity
with Saginaw Valley State,” said Stanton. “We have
a lot of work to do, but I’m confident we can compete with
the best teams in the conference. To be successful in this league
you must also be competitive nationally, and I feel we have the
ability to accomplish that.”
From 1993-2001 he was the head coach at Lake
Fenton high school where he guided the team to the 1998 Michigan
Class C state championship after finishing runner-up in 1997.
Following the 1998 season he was named the Michigan Interscholastic
Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Stanton has
never had a losing season as a head coach at the high school or
college level
“We are very excited to be able to find
someone as qualified as William to take over our volleyball program,”
stated Zimmermann. “He has proven his ability to capture
success on every level he has coached at.”
Stanton earned a Bachelor’s degree in
Computer Science and Business from Linfield College in McMinnville,
Oregon. In addition to his coaching duties at SVSU, Stanton works
as a Systems Analyst for Electronic Data Systems in Flint. His
hiring is effective today (February 4).
