UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw
Valley State University senior Jamie Reed (Saginaw,
Mich./Heritage HS) was named to the All-GLIAC second team,
while teammate junior Valarie Lyczkowski (Temperance,
Mich./Bedford HS) earned honorable mention.
Earlier this season Reed became the school's
all time leader for career digs, finishing with 1,605. She finished
408 digs better than the previous mark held by Sarah Swallow (1992-95).
Last week Reed made her mark once again, improving her total for
digs this season to 556, setting another school record. She surpasses
the 532 record set by Charlene Carter during the 1994 season.
"Jamie is the best defensive player
I have ever coached," stated head coach Bob Sells. "She
reads the opposition so well it's almost like she's in the hitters
head."
Reed became only the second player in
SVSU history to record 500 digs in a season, the first to record
three 400 dig seasons, and the first setter to record 1,000 assists
and 1,000 digs. Reed also finishes sixth on the SVSU career list
with 1486 assists and 10th in career aces with 90.
Lyczkowski's 334 digs, 23 solo blocks,
and 75 block assists all ranked second on the team. Lyczkowski
also finished third on the team with 181 kills. She moves into
seventh place all time with 175 block assists for her career and
seventh for her 23 solo blocks this season.
