Wildcats Sweep Cardinals

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lady Cardinals dropped their seventh-straight GLIAC match, falling to Northern Michigan, 30-23, 30-19, 30-18, Friday night in the Cardinal Gym. SVSU slipped to 4-15 on the season, 0-7 in GLIAC play while the Wildcats improved to 7-8 overall, 2-3 in league action.
    Senior Jamie Reed (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) dished out 23 assists and 15 digs, while junior Valarie Lyczkowski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) finished with a game-high 16 digs. The Cardinals were led up front by freshman Chelsea Erickson (Spring Lake, Mich.), who slammed nine kills, and sophomore Kelly Stoltz (New Stanton, Penn.), who added eight kills and 10 digs.
    As a team the SVSU outdug NMU 54-51, but the Wildcats hit .275 while the Cardinals only hit .081. Aimee Dewitte's 12 kills, Kelli McCune's 37 assists, and Meaghan Kimball's 15 digs led the Wildcats to their second GLIAC victory of the season.
    Saginaw Valley State will host Michigan Tech Saturday (Oct. 5), at 4:00 p.m.
