Michigan
Tech Defeats SVSU
HOUGHTON, Mich. - Despite a hard fought
battle, Saginaw Valley State University fell in three games, (30-23,
30-19, 30-17) to Michigan Tech University on Saturday (November
2). SVSU slips to 7-25 (1-15 GLIAC) for the season, while the
Huskies improve to 11-16 (6-10 GLIAC).
Despite the loss senior Jamie Reed
(Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) posted eight digs, bumping
her career leading record for digs to 1559. She has also registered
510 digs this year, becoming only the second player in school
history to reach the 500 plateau. With two games remaining, Reed
needs 23 digs to break the SVSU single season record.
Junior Valarie Lyczkowski (Temperance,
Mich./Bedford HS) recorded a match-high 12 digs and freshman
Chelsea Erickson (Spring Lake, Mich.) buried seven
kills.
Kristin Klock dished out a match-high 37 assists, while Taryn
Franznick slammed 12 kills for the Huskies.
For the match, MTU held a 46-29 advantage
in kills, and a 57-50 edge in digs. SVSU hit .050, while Michigan
Tech hit .253 and had a 12-6 edge in blocks.
The Cardinals will return to action when
they host Ferris State on Friday
(November 8) at 5:00 p.m.
