Lakers
Top Lady Cardinals 3-1
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lady Cardinals fell by the score
of 3-1 to Lake Superior State on Thursday (Oct. 3). Game scores
were 29-31, 31-29, 30-12, and 30-26.
The Cardinals slipped to 4-14 on the season,
0-6 in GLIAC play while the Lakers improved to 8-9 overall, 1-5
in league action.
SVSU took a narrow 31-29 victory in game
one and looked to have control of game two, but the Lakers stormed
back taking a 31-29 victory. The Cardinals never rebounded, as
the Lakers took game three 30-12, and game four 30-26. Despite
the loss, senior Jamie Reed (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage
HS) tallied 13 assists and 14 digs, while freshman Chelsea
Erickson (Spring Lake, Mich.) added 15 kills and 17
digs. Junior Valarie Lyczkowski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford
HS) finished with a team-high 22 digs and freshman Susan
Ziegler (Armada, Mich.) handed out a career-high 26
assists.
LSSU out hit SVSU, .260 to .180, and outdug
the Cardinals, 113-102. Ashlee Buckley's 23 kills, Leslie Newcomer's
56 assists, and Vanessa Vincent's 35 digs led the Laker's to their
first GLIAC win of the season.
Saginaw Valley State will host Northern
Michigan Friday night (Oct. 4), at 7:00 p.m.
