Reed
Breaks Record In 3-1 Defeat
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Senior Jamie
Reed (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) tallied 26 digs,
setting a new school record for season digs as SVSU lost 3-1 (28-30,
30-22, 30-20, 30-20) to No. 22 Ferris State University on Friday
(November 8).
Reed's 26 digs bumped her season tally
to 536, four digs better than the previous record holder Charlene
Carter (1994). Reed also increased her career leading record for
digs to 1585.
"Jamie is the best defensive player
I have ever coached," stated head coach Bob Sells. "She
reads the opposition so well it's almost like she's in the hitters
head."
Despite the loss junior Valarie Lyczkowski
(Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) recorded 24 digs and sophomore's
Kelly Samalik (Freeland, Mich.) and Megan Pendleton
(Belding, Mich.) led the team offensively with 11 and 10
kills respectively.
Ferris State setter Ashley Green dished
out a match-high 41 assists, while Stephanie Speed slammed 12
kills and 12 service aces for the Bulldogs.
For the match, FSU held a 53-38 advantage
in kills, and hit .193. SVSU hit .120, while holding a 7.5-5.5
edge in blocks. The loss slips SVSU to 7-26 (1-16 GLIAC) for the
season, while the Bulldogs improve to 24-4 (14-2 GLIAC).
The Cardinals will complete the regular
season tomorrow (November 9) at 2:00 p.m. against Grand Valley
State.
