Cardinals Upend Ferris

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI-- The Saginaw Valley State University women's volleyball team played their hearts out on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Ferris State University by the scores of 9-15, 17-15, 15-8, 15-12.
"This was by far the best match that we have played this season," claimed an elated Coach Bob Sells.
The Cardinals had big games from some of their role players, such as junior Brooke Burton (Temperance/Bedford), who had been sharing the left side job with Tracy Wenzel, and senior Jenni Dast (Bay City/Central). Burton came up big with her 13 kills, including the match winner.
"We had been struggling all year to maintain a consistent level of play," stated Sells. "The play we displayed today was what we are trying to build for the Cardinal program."
Sophomore Bree Hickman (Temperance/Bedford) led SVSU with 22 kills, 13 digs and 3 block assists, while Burton chipped 4 digs and 2 block assists. Dast had 4 kills and 25 digs for the Lady Cardinals. Senior setter Erin Geiger (Belding) had 57 assists, 5 kills and 3 block assists. Sophomore Krista Mohr (St. Johns) had 12 kills, 4 digs and a block assist.
SVSU improves to 6-13 overall, 2-7 in the GLIAC.
The Lady Cardinals next match is on Saturday, October 7 when they host Mercyhurst College.
