CARDINAL WOMEN BEGIN INDOOR SEASON WITH HOLIDAY OPEN

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The women's track and field squads began their indoor seasons today at the 11th annual Holiday Open at the Ryder Center on the campus of SVSU. On the women's side, freshman Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) finished in second place out of nine competitors in the mile run (5:25.55) with teammate sophomore Jessica Sweeney (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) coming in third place (5:35.75).
     Freshman Courtney Kotewa (Essexville, Mich./Garber) placed third out of nine in the 800 meters (2:27.17), seven seconds off the lead. Junior Lisa Fair (Troy, Mich./Athens) finished second out of eight in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.23. Senior Mandie Gallier (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) placed fourth in the 60 hurdles at 9.26. Senior Bethany Rasmussen (Port Huron, Mich.) claimed third out of 11 in the high jump with a height of 5' 2". Senior Mary Jo Pouillon (Owosso, Mich.) finished second in the shot put (46' 9") and sixth in the weight throw (48' 8"). Junior Ashley Bishop (Pickford, Mich.) won the weight throw with a distance of 53' 7.5" representing the Saginaw Track Club.
