Lady Cardinals Do Well in Cardinal Collegiate Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Sagainw Valley had a good showing from their ladies track and field team on Friday, Jan.14. For the women, Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) took home first place in the1600 meter run, with a time of 5.21.13, which not only gave her the win but also a meet record in the mile. Rudey also earned a second place finish in the 3000 meter run (10:43.22). SVSU dominated the 800 meter run, as sophomore Jessica Sweeney (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) earned a first place finish with a time of 2:21.52. Two other Cardinals came across the finish line right after her, with Krystin Vogel (Ubly, Mich) taking second place (2:24.54), while freshman Courtney Kotewa (Essexville, Mich./Garber) garnered third place honors with a time of 2:26.90.
     Some other Cards with good finishes were Mandie Gallier (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.16,which won the event, and Lisa Fair (Troy, Mich./Athens), who tied for first place in the 60 meter hurdles finishing in 9.30 seconds. Those two then teamed up with Sweeney and Ashley Coppens (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley HS) to win the 4X400 meter relay, as they ran a time of 4:08..10.
    Ashley Christie (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn HS) was the only other first place finisher on the night, as she won the pole vault with a vault of 10-00.00. Coming in second place on the night was Meagan Strohkirch (Gladwin, Mich.) in the 5000 meter run (19.05.77), and senior Bethany Rasmussen (Port Huron, Mich.) in the high jump
