Cardinals Host Holiday Indoor Open

University Center, Mich.- The Saginaw Valley State University track teams hosted the 2001 Holiday Indoor Open in the Ryder Center complex on Friday.  Schools and track clubs from Michigan and Ohio in all division competed in the event.
      Saginaw Valley State took home first-place honors in eight different events, with two Cardinals setting NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks.  
     Jon Hall (Pontiac/Central) won the men's long jump with a leap of 24'0.5", good enough to make him a provisional qualifier while Mario Guerrero (Saginaw/Swan Valley) was able to do the same by winning the men's high jump with a 6'8.5" mark.
     Lewis Gordon (Lansing/Everett) won the 400 meter dash (:50.43) and was part of the SVSU 4X400 which took first as well.  Ryan Meyer (Davison) outsprinted the competition in the 200 meter dash, posting a mark of :22.60.
     On the women's side, Nicole Sullivan (Vassar) took home firsts in the long jump (18'5"), 200 meter (:26.16) and 400 meter dashes (:58.19).
     The Cardinals' next meet will be in Allendale at the Laker Early Bird Invitational set for January 4, 2002 hosted by Grand Valley State University.
