Several Cards Place at GLVC/GLIAC Challenge

Findlay, Ohio- SVSU's track teams made the trip to Findlay, Ohio again this weekend to participate in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge on Friday.  The Cardinals took home three first-place finsihes and had several top-ten finishes to their credit.
     Nicole Sullivan (Vassar) won two events, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II meet each time.  Her 57.37 time in the 400 meter dash was .48 better than the provisional time while her 5.61m leap in the long jump helped her win and provisionally qualify.  Sullivan also finished third in the triple jump.
     Mary Jo Pouillon (Owosso) set a new personal best in the women's shotput with a throw of 12.98 meters.  The put was good for third place.  Pouillon also took home sixth place in the women's weight with her 13.80 meter mark.
     Bianca Williams (Taylor/Kennedy) and Helena Jach (Port Huron/Northern) finished third and fourth, respectively in the 60 meter high hurdles.
     Holly Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) crossed the finish in 2:20.25 in the 800 meter run to take sixth place honors.
     Melissa Gomez (Dryden/Almont) had the fifth-best leap in the women's high jump, clearing 1.56 meters.
     In the women's pole vault, Ryann Smith (Almont) cleared the 2.80 meter mark for sixth place.

     On the men's side, Mario Guerrero (Saginaw/Swan Valley) tied for first in the high jump, clearing 1.99 meters.  Guerrero also placed in the triple jump (fourth) and the 60 high hurdles (fifth).
     Derrick Harper (Hampton, Va.) placed sixth in the 60 meter sprint with a dash of  7.16 seconds.
     Lewis Gordon (Lansing/Everett) took fifth in the 400 meter dash, crossing in 50.2 seconds. Gordon also cleared 1.99 meters in the high jump, but needed more jumps than Guerrero and finsihed fifth.
     Jason Andrich (Marlette) threw the shotput 14.29 meters for fifth-place honors, and also taking eighth in the weight throw.
     Jeremy Garn (Ludington) took fourth in the weight throw with his toss of 16.26 meters.
     Mike Irwin (Lapeer/West) was sixth-best in the mile run with a time of 4:27.08.

     The Cardinals will make the jaunt to Findlay one more time for the Findlay Open of Friday, February 8.
