Several Cards Place at Findlay Open

Findlay, Ohio- The SVSU track teams made the journey down to Findlay, Ohio for the third consecutive weekend and several Cardinal athletes settled-in to their "home-away-from-home" to take home top ten honors.
     Mario Guerrero (Saginaw/Swan Valley) took home third place in the triple jump (13.21m), while placing second in the high jump (2.00m).  Corey Martin (Saginaw/Bridgeport) earned seventh place with his 23.02 time in the 200 meter dash.  Lewis Gordon (Lansing/Everitt) was .10 behind the leader in the 400 meter dash, good for second place with Raashan Giles (Detroit/Northern) placing tenth in the same event.   Mohommed Waite (East Lansing) earned third place in the 800 meter run, finishing in 1:57.14.  Steve Heverly (Ortonville/Goodrich) was fourth-best in the pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters.  In the throwing events, Jason Andrich (Marlette) took fifth in the shotput (14.27m) and sixth in the weight throw with a heave of 48'02.50. Jeremy Garn (Ludington) won fifth in that event with his 52'07.25 toss.
     SVSU scored a first place finish in the 4X400 relay finishing in 3:26.58.
     On the women's side, Nicole Sullivan (Vassar) won the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.72.  Holly Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) tallied two impressive finishes with her 2:22.66 time in the 800 meter run (second) and third in the long jump with a leap of 5.27 meters. Bianca Williams (Taylor/Kennedy) finished second in the 55 meter high hurdle event with a time of 8.53.  Helena Jach (Port Huron/Northern) was .14 behind her for a sixth place finish.   Missy Stevens' (Saginaw/Heritage) 27.51 time in the 200 meter dash was good enough for sixth place.  In the 3,000 meter run, two Cardinals finished near the top.  Diane Johnston (Grand Blanc) placed sixth (10:55.67) and Meagan Strohkirch (Gladwin) ninth (11:09.96).  Melissa Gomez (Dryden/Almont) cleared 1.55 meters in the high jump for seventh place.  Ryann Smith's (Almont) 2.75 meter effort in the pole vault earned her sixth place. Mary Jo Pouillon (Owosso) earned third in the shotput (12.41 m) and fifth in the weight throw (13.70 m).  
     The Lady Cards also chalked-up a first place finish in the 4X400 meter relay finishing over 14 seconds ahead of the competition.
     The Cardinals will next travel to Mt. Pleasant to compete in the Central Michigan Open on February 15.
