Cardinals Host Cardinal CollegiateOpen

University Center, Mich.- The Saginaw Valley State University track teams hosted the 2002 Cardinal Collegiate Open in the Ryder Center complex on Friday.  Division II and NAIA schools from around the state compteted in the event.
      Saginaw Valley State took home first-place honors in 15 different events combined.
     Christina Muschiana and Mario Guerrero won the the women's and men's high jump events, respectively. Muschiana cleared 5'2" while Guerrero cleared 6'7".  Guerrero also took home the 60 hurdles crown in 8.68 seconds.
     Bianca Williams won the 60 hurdles on the women's side, finishing in 9.26 seconds.
     The women's shotput went to Mary Jo Pouillon with a toss of 41'7.5".
     Jeremy Garn took home first-place honors in the 35# weight throw with a heave of 54'5".
     Nicole Sullivan was a multiple winner, winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.02 and outleaping the competition in the long jump with a 19'5" mark.
 
     Ryan Meyer won the 200 meter event on the men's side with a mark of :23.28.
     Holly Brown's 2:42.05 time was good enough for first place in the women's 800, while Christina Kaszeta was able to beat Brown for first in the 400 with a time of 01:02.6.
     Mohammed Waite was the winner in the men's 600 meter run, needing just 01:23.8 to cross the finish line.
     Meagan Strohkirch outdistanced her three teammates in the mile run, marking a 5:49.1 time.
     SVSU finished first in two other events, taking first place honors in the men's 3200 and 1600 relay.
     The Cardinals will host the SVSU Collegiate Open next Friday beginning at 5 pm in the Ryder Center complex.
