Score Twice in the 7th Inning for a 5-4 win
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Saginaw Valley State
softball team escaped the weather and travelled to Lewis University
for a four-game invitational this weekend and started the
trip with a come-from-behind 5-4 win over St. Francis (IL).
The Cards trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh
when Monica Sims (Millbury, Ohio)
singled to right field to begin the inning. After a wild pitch
advanced Sims to second, senior Katie Albert
(Waterford, Mich./Kettering) followed with a single
to left field sending Sims to third with no outs. Jamie
Seaman (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) singled
to left with the bases loaded after a Lorelea Rice
(East Caledon, Ont.) walk and scored Sims to tie
the game at 4-4. Tabitha Greenwood (Vassar,
Mich.) walked with the bases loaded for the final tally.
Rice picked up the win on the mound
and improved to 3-1. She threw a complete game and allowed
two earned runs and five hits with three strikeouts. The Cards
took a 2-0 lead after four innings before St. Francis tied
the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
SVSU went ahead 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the sixth
and St. Francis answered with two runs of their own in the
top of the seventh.
Senior Emily Byram
(Grand Rapids, Mich./Allendale) went 1-for-3 with
two RBI. Senior Nicole Shick (Montrose,
Mich.) hit her first homer of the season and was 2-for-3
with two runs scored. SVSU banged out 10 hits in the game
