Cardinals
Split on Monday
FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University
softball team earned a five-inning 10-0 win over Johnson &
Wales in game one, while dropping a 1-0 decision to Notre
Dame College in the second game on Monday (Feb. 28).
Sophomore Lorelea Rice
(Caledon East, Ontario/Mayfield Secondary)
earned the win for SVSU against J&W, pitching four innings
and striking our five batters. Freshman Holly Bruntjens
(Gladstone, Mich.) pitched the fifth inning
and struck out three batters in her collegiate debut.
Rice led the Cardinals on offense,
as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Senior Emily Byram (Grand Rapids, Mich.)
went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored to add to
the attack.
Freshman Lindsay Noren
(South Lyon, Mich.) pitched the first six
innings against NDC, allowing only one run and striking out
four batters in her collegiate debut. Senior Karen
Ray (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) pitched
the final inning, striking out one.
The Cardinals did not produce
any runs against NDC but Rice managed a 2-for-3 outting with
a double and a base on balls. Sophomore Denise Betts
(Harbor Springs, Mich.) went 1-for-3 for
the Cardinals.
SVSU's record is now 2-1 after
two days of competition.
