Battle #1 Florida Southern
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University
softball team dropped a pair of games to Florida Southern,
the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II. With the outcome,
SVSU drops to 3-3 on the season.
In game one, Karen Ray
(Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) took the loss,
pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six hits, seven runs and
two walks. She also struck out six batters.
The Cardinals managed only four
hits in the first game, led by Lorelea Rice (Caledon
East, Ontario/Mayfield Secondary), who went 2-for-3 with
two singles. Tabitha Greenwood (Vassar,
Mich.) drew two walks for the Cardinals.
In game two, Rice took the loss,
pitching 4.1 innings and allowing eight hits, six runs and
four walks.
The Cardinals managed five hits
in game two, led by Nicole Shick (Montrose,
Mich.), who punched out two hits in three at-bats with
one RBI. Monica Sims (Millbury, Ohio)
went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Greenwood reached base on
a walk and scored a run, as well.
