Falls 2-1 in 10 Innings at Florida Gulf Coast
FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Cardinals dropped a 2-1
decision in 10 innings on Thursday night from Florida Gulf
Coast University. The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader,
but weather permitted the cancellation of the second game
in the second inning. The game was a pitcher's duel as neither
team scored through the first nine innings. The Cardinals
took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the 10th inning. Tabitha
Greenwood delivered a one-out single that scored Lorelea Rice
who began on second due to the international tiebreaker rule.
Florida Gulf Coast got the run right back in the home half
of the 10th and then with two outs delivered a double with
the game-winning run.
The Cards spaced out seven
hits while FGC had six hits. Karen Ray (Fenton, Mich./Lake
Fenton) pitched the entire game and struck out 11 in a losing
effort dropping the team to 3-4 overall. Rice led SVSU with
two hits as five other players collected one hit. FGC smacked
three doubles as SVSU recorded all singles.
