DROPS A PAIR AT ASHLAND
ASHLAND, Ohio - SVSU battled for a total of
20 innings on Saturday at Ashland and fell to 11-12 overall
and 2-4 in the GLIAC with a 4-3 loss and 3-1 loss to the Eagles.
The first game was a marathon as the Eagles won it in the
bottom of the 13th inning. Lorelea Rice (East
Caledon, Ont.) hauled a majority of the innings going 9.2
and allowed two unearned runs in the fourth and tenth innings.
She struck out six and walked two and gave way to Karen
Ray (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) who picked up the
loss (5-6) going the final 2.2 innings and allowed two unearned
runs in the eleventh and thirteenth innings. SVSU scored a
run in the top of the third to build a 1-0 lead. Monica
Sims (Millbury, Ohio) doubled in Stephanie
Sills (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) with
the game's first run. The game was tied at 1-1 going into
extra innings as both teams scored one run in the tenth and
eleventh innings. SVSU managed four hits off Ashland pitching
in game one.
Ray also absorded the loss
in game two (5-7) going all seven innings and recording five
strikeouts. She allowed three earned runs and nine hits with
one walk. Ashland batted as the away team in game two and
scored two quick runs in the top of the first. SVSU cut it
to 2-1 after a run in the bottom of the second. Tabitha
Greenwood (Vassar, Mich.) scored an unearned run
on stolen base attempt by Nicole Shick (Montrose,
Mich.) with two outs. Ashland tacked on one more run in the
top of the seventh for added insurance. Four different players
had one single for the Cardinals in game two.
Saginaw Valley State takes on
Findlay tomorrow in a GLIAC doubleheader scheduled for 1:00
pm.
