Cardinals Split Close Games with Timberwolves

Midland, MI - The Saginaw Valley State University softball team split two close games with the Timberwolves today at Northwood University. Despite getting 11 hits to Northwood's 8, the Cardinals were not able beat the Timberwolves in a close 4-5 loss. Senior out fielder, Tiffany Martin (Flushing) contributed three of those hits and one RBI. In the second game senior pitcher Carrie Shay (Flint/Burton Bendle) was able to return to her winning ways as the Cardinals beat the Timberwolves 7-3. The Cardinals lit up the second inning with 5 hits and 3 runs. Three Cardinals, Libby Poellet (Frankenmuth), Jocelyn Gubancsik (Buton/Flint Kearsley) and Becky Bourcier (Montrose) all contributed with two hits each. Senior Whitney Babcock (Bay City/All Saints) turned in a stellar performance by going 4 for 3 today.

Saginaw Valley is now 9-7 overall and 3-9 in the GLIAC.

The Cardinals return to action Wednesday April 18th when they travel to Grand Rapids to play NAIA competitor, Aqinas College. Game time is 3:00pm.
