ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI - The Saginaw Valley State
University women's softball team fell short in the GLIAC tournament
but went out in a big way. Falling into the looser's bracket the
Cards ended up playing seven games. They are as follows:
SVSU won the first game at the GLIAC tournament
with a score of 5-0 against Lake State. Courtney Pintek (Flushing)
pitched a 3 hitter. Libby Poellet (Frankenmuth) led the way in
the third inning with a double. Becky Bourcier (Montrose) April
Vega (Essexville), and Whitney Babcock (Bay City) contributed
to the effort with singles. Bourcier had 3 RBI's going 2-2.
The Cards had a 2 run lead in the 4th but fell short
losing to Wayne State in the second game. Courtney Pintek (Flushing)
had a 6 hitter. Becky Bourcier (Montrose) had a double with Tiffany
Martin (Flushing) coming up with the RBI.
SVSU won in a big way against Hillsdale with a score
of 10-0. SVSU's bats were hot with VEGA and Martin both going
2-3. Babcock was 2-2 with two DBL's. Sophomore Kelly Martin (Flushing)
had 2 RBI's and H.R while Tiffinay Martin was 2-3.
In game 4 SVSU out ran Ferris with a 4-1 score.
Pintek had a 1 hitter. Taylor and Tiffany Martin were both 2-4
with Taylor hitting a triple and Martin a double. Poellet was
2-3.
Game 5 was exciting with SVSU pulling ahead of Findlay
in the 5th inning and going for the win, 4-1. Brandi Srda had
a double while Jocelyn Gubancsik, and Poellet all had singles
with Poellet going 2-3.
Game 6 SVSU came out on top against Ashland with
a 3-1 victory. Martin was 2-3 while Srda was 2-4. Other contributors
were: Gubancsik, Poellet, Kaniszewski, Taylor, and Bourcier.
Game 7 SVSU beat Wayne State, 7-5. SVSU had 3 runs
in the 7th. Martin was 2-3 and Poellet went 3-3.
The Cards did an outstanding job! Great Defense
with the performance of freshman pitchers being outstanding. The
Cards ended on a good note and put on a good performance. A job
well done!
