Cards Split Gannon

UNIVERSITY CENTER- UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI- The Saginaw Valley State University Cardinal Softball team split two games of a double header today with the Knights from Gannon University.

In the first game both teams had trouble getting anything going offensively. The Knights ended up scoring a run in the top of the sixth which would prove to be the game-winner.

Heather Ford was able to shut out the Cardinals only giving up three hits and striking out 11 Cardinal batters. Carrie Shay (Flint/Burton Bendle) pitched a complete game for the Cardinals only picking up one earned run in 7 innings of work. The loss moves Shay's record to 4-10 on the season.

Two of the three hits in the first game came from the bat of freshman Jesse Kaniszewski (Kingston).

In the second game the Cardinals were able to turn things around collecting twelve hits and nine runs to the Knights two runs on six hits.

Lead-off batter April Vega (Essexville/Garber) pitched in three hits in four trips to the plate and also churn out two rbi's. Jocelyn Gubancsik (Burton/Flint Kearsley) also had a good game going 2-4 with two rbi's.

Courtney Pintek (Flushing) picked up the win for the Cardinals pushing her record to 8-4 on the season.

SVSU's record is now 16-24 overall and 8-10 in the league.

The Cardinals next game will be Wednesday, May 2 when they will travel to Madonna. Game time is 3:30 pm.
