Cards Split with Knights

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI- The Saginaw Valley State University women's softball team split with the Knights of Calvin College on Wednesday afternoon.

SVSU took the first game by the score of 1-0.

Freshman pitcher Courtney Pintek (Flushing) got the win for the Lady Cardinals. She allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four. Pintek improves her season record to 6-2.

Senior Jocelyn Gubancsik (Burton/Flint Kearsley) scored the game winning run in the third inning of an error by the Knights catcher. Freshman Jesse Kaniszewski (Kingston) had two hits at three trips to the plate.

The Lady Cardinals lost the second game by the score of 2-0.

Junior right hander Carrie Shay (Flint/Burton Bendle) got the loss for the Lady Cardinals after relieving freshman Christina Fuciarelli (Washington/Harper Woods Regina). Shay walked two, allowed two the knights only two runs and struck out one. Shay's season record falls to 1-9.

Leading the way for the Lady Cardinals was junior Brandi Srda (Clio) had two hits at three trips to the plate, along with a stolen base. Sophomore Kelly Martin (Bay City/All Saints) hit a double and got a stolen base.

SVSU's record is 11-21.

The Lady Cardinals next game will be on Friday, April 27th when they will host Mercyhurst College. Game time will be 4:00 pm.
