Ashland Sweeps Cards

ASHLAND, OH– The Saginaw Valley State University softball team played a double header against Ashland University on Saturday afternoon. SVSU was defeated both games by the scores of 7-0 and 12-5. Freshman Christina Fuciarelli (Washington/Harper Woods Regina) gave up five hits and walked two. She had 5 hits while falling to a 1-4 record for the season. Junior right-hander Carrie Shay (Flint/Burton Bendle) took the loss in the second game. She had nine hits and walked only two. Shay gave up six hits. She drops to a 1-6 record. The Cardinals scored once in the fourth inning and four times in the fifth. Junior Brandi Srda (Clio) chipped in a double and an RBI, while fellow junior Whitney Babcock (Bay City/All Saints) contributed two of the Cardinals five runs and an RBI. Ashland raised its record to 5-5 in the GLIAC and 23-10 overall.

SVSU fell to 7-13 overall and 1-5 in the GLIAC.

The Cardinals next game is Sunday, April 8th when they travel to Hillsdale College for a double header. Game time is scheduled for noon.
