Tennis Defeats Tiffin, 8-1

Saginaw, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women’s tennis team recorded its first victory of the season, defeating Tiffin University by a score of 8-1 Friday afternoon (Oct. 9).

Things got started in doubles, as the No. 1 team of Yunijao Shangguan and Debra Hammond defeated their opponents, 8-4. The Cardinals would also win the No. 3 doubles match-up by virtue of forfeit. SVSU swept all of the singles matches by the following scores: #1 Yunijao Shangguan (6-2, 6-2);
#2 Debra Hammond (7-5, 6-2); #3 Cortney Heileman (6-3, 6-4); #4 Jessica Stone (6-1, 6-2); #5 Lindy Coon (6-0, 6-0); #6 Lauren Smith by forfeit.

The victory over Tiffin puts the Cardinals’ record at 1-6 on the season with the same record in GLIAC play while the Dragons fall to 0-10 overall with an 0-6 record in the conference.
