Women run well at Collegiate Open

University Center, MICH. - Saginaw Valley State University’s mens and womens track teams perform well at their hosted Collegiate Open today (Jan. 30).
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.

For the women, freshman Chelsea Savage (Monroe, Mich.) placed first in the 300 meter run with a time of 10:34.92 while Amber Catlin (Alma, Mich.) finished third at 10:34.92. Maggie Stalker (Ocsoda, Mich.) placed second in the one mile run with a time of 5:15.50. In the 60 meter hurdles, Leighann Dowell (Millington, Mich.) finished third place with a time of 9.04, and also placed second in the long jump with a length of 5.22 meters. In the 400 meter dash, Ashley Morrow (Millington, Mich.) placed fourth with a time of 1:01.08.

The 4x400 relay team of Kelsey Bartoloni (Southgate, Mich.), Amie Wilson (Linden, Mich.), Megan Haskin (Fairview, Mich.), and Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North) placed third in with a time of 4:18.33. Emily Nugent (Benzonia, Mich.Benzie Central) finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 16.01 meters.


For the men, junior Scott Chavalier (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter HS) placed third overall in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.07, while junior Anthony Filipek (Caro, Mich. /Kingston HS) finished third in the 400 meter run with a time of 51.12, and senior Charlie Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) followed close behind to finish in fifth place with a time of 51.24.

In the one mile run junior Derek Stone (Metamora Mich, / Lapeer East HS) finished fifth overall with a time of 4:23.71 and junior Steve Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) finished seventh overall in the time of 4:24.73. Junior Jesse Evans (Cheboygan, Mich.) finished first in the 3000 meter run in a time of 8:44.42, while junior Ben Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) finished seventh overall in a time of 9:11.61. Freshman Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich.) finished in ninth place in the 3000 meter run in a time of 9:17.31 and freshman Josh Zang (Berkely, Mich.) followed close behind finishing in tenth with a time of 9:17.65.

Senior Sam Tilmon (Romulus, Mich.) finished first overall in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.22 where he set the school record and provisionally qualified for nationals and senior Kyle McDaniel (Yale, Mich.) followed close behind in second with a time of 8.67. In the 4x400 relay McDaniel, Richards, Filipek and Joshua Arnold (Clio, Mich) came in first place with a time of 3:27.64. The men finished second in the distance medlay with a time of 10:56.28.

In the high jump junuor Ryan Simmons (Port Austin, Mich) finished fourth overall with a height of 2.03 meters, while senior Joe Dougall (Clinton Twp., Mich.) placed fifth with a height of 1.98 meters. In the pole vault Luke Dinnan (Midland, Mich.) finished sixth with a height of 4.40 meters, while McDaniel finished eighth with a height of 4.40 meters. Freshman Ryan Jayne placed second overall in the triple jump with a distance of 13.02 meters. Senior Sean Egan (Marysville, Mich.) finished third overall in the shot put with a throw of 15.40 meters, while senior Rob Callaway finished sixth overall with a distance of 15.01 meters and Josh Koglin (Kimball, Mich) finished seventh with a distance of 14.75 meters. Koglin also placed second overall in the shot put with a distance of 18.82 meters.

The track teams are back in action on Feb 7 in Allendale in the NCAA Div. II Team Challenge.
