| MacLelland Fourth After Singles Qualifying Rounds |
| MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Saginaw Valley State University junior bowler Dan MacLelland (Windsor, Ont.) competed in the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships today and finished day one with a fourth-seed as they head into match-play tomorrow. Qualifying consisted of 12 games of bowling split up into two groups of six. After the first round of qualifying, MacLelland was second in the standings with a score of 1,344 (224.00 average), trailing only Martin Methodist’s Sean Rutherford by only nine pins. In the second round of qualifying, MacLelland fell down to fourth but still had a strong performance, shooting a 1,284 for a 12-game total of 2,628 (219.00 average), just 58 pins behind the #1 seed. On Tuesday, the competition will finish up as the bowlers begin match play. In the first round of match play, only the nine through 16 seeds bowl each other, as the matchups go 9 vs 16, 10 vs 15, etc. The winners of those matchups will go on to face seeds five through eight in the second round. The winners of those matches will then go on to the face the one through four seeds which are already placed in the third round of match play competition. In the matches before MacLelland, #12 seed Brett Shepherd (Vincennes University) will take on #13 seed Michael Dole (Lindenwood), and the winner of that match-up will take on #5 seed Jim Rogers (Wichita State). The winner of that match-up will then take on MacLelland for a position in semi-final round.
