Cross Country Squad Recognized
for Academics
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University men's cross country team has been named to the
NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association 2004 All-Academic
Team. In order to achieve this honor, the cumulative grade point
average of the team must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Cardinal
harriers accumulated a team GPA of 3.232.
The members of the team are: seniors
Doug McGaw and Pedro Ortega; juniors Ryan Clapp, Andy Cojeen, Paul
Jozwiak, Adam Roach and Jacob Schultz; and sophomores Mario Cornejo,
Steve Czymbor, James Gale, Justin Grow, Nick Krus, Greg Schmit and
Len Weddel.
In addition, Roach, Czymbor and Ortega
each earned individual All-Academic honors. To earn individual All-Academic
standing an athlete must have at least a 3.25 GPA and must have
placed in the top 30% of the total number of athletes eligible in
the team's regional championships. Roach finished 22nd out of 163
total runners and solidified his status with a 3.985 grade point
average. Czymbor finished 37th and managed a 3.838 GPA, while Ortega
finished 42nd and earned a 3.679 in the world of academia.
