SVSU TUNES
UP FOR GLIAC AT JACK SKOOG OPEN
Mount Pleasant, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
track squads geared up for the GLIAC Indoor Championships by competing
in the Jack Skoog Open hosted by Central Michigan University on
Friday night. The ladies had two first place finishes as the 4x400
relay posted a time of 4:02.29 and junior Ashley Bishop
(Pickford, Mich.) walked away with the best throw in the
weight (55' 3.5"). The women's team also had three third place
finishes including senior Mandie Gallier (Medford,
N.J./Shawnee) in the 400 meters (58.37). In addition, freshman
Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western)
ran a 5:09.38 mile and junior Lisa Fair (Troy,
Mich./Athens) posted a 9.23 in the 60 hurdles.
The men's team enjoyed two first places
as sophomore Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay
City Western) was victorious in the 400 meters (49.72) and
sophomore James Gale (Livonia, Mich./Churchill)
ran a 3000 meters' mark of 8:37.63. Freshman Jerry Nelson
(Taylor, Mich./Truman) finished fourth in the 200 dash
(23.12) and fifth in the 60 dash (7.13) in the sprinting events.
Junior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.)
placed second in the mile with a time of 4:12.30. Senior Mario
Guerrero (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) placed second
in two events including a height of 6' 8" in the high jump
and a distance of 42' 6" in the triple jump.
