Six Cardinals Qualify for National Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University track & field program is proud to have six of their athletes make qualifing marks to participate in the Outdoor National Championships which will take place from May 26 to May 28.
     The men will be lead by freshman Eltaro Hooper (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln HS) who will be competing in two events, the high jump and the triple jump. He qualified 12th in the high jump with a mark of 6'-11'' and 18th in the triple jump leaping 47'-10.5''.
     Junior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) will be competing in the 5000 meter run, as he placed 15th will a time of 14:26.51. Pedro Ortega (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley HS) also qualified for the 3000 meter steeplechase by running a time of 9:13.21. Senior Jake Adams (Corunna, Mich.) was the final qualifier on the men's side, earning the seventh seed in the discus with a throw of 169'-9''.
     On the women's side, senior Mandie Gallier (Medford, N.J.) qualified in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.11, giving her the fifth overall seed in that event. Joining her from the women's team will be freshman Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western HS) who will compete in the 5000 meter run, qualifying with a time of 17:32.14.
