CARDS FINISH
THIRD AT GLIAC INDOOR MEET
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.
- The Saginaw Valley State men's track and field squad finished
third at the 2005 GLIAC Indoor Championship with a team score of
82.5 points. Grand Valley State won the title with 192 points. Junior
Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay City Western)
finished fourth in the 200 dash with a time of 22.51 which was a
provisional mark. Senior Bill Germain (Vassar,
Mich.) placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 51.02
and earned four points. Junior Paul Jozwiak (Berkley,
Mich.) placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.53.
Sophomore James Gale (Livonia, Mich./Churchill)
placed second in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:31.92 and earned
eight points. The 4x400 meter relay placed third with a time of
3:23.67. The relay consisted of freshman Pete O'Brien
(Davison, Mich./Flint Kearsley), senior Matt Collins
(Gaylord, Mich./St. Mary's), Baranek and Germain. The distance
medley won the event with a time of 10:07.28 and set a fieldhouse
record. Gale, Baranek, Jozwiak and junior Adam Roach
(Port Huron, Mich.) were the competitors in the relay.
Senior Mario Guerrero (Saginaw, Mich./Swan
Valley) won the high jump and tied a meet record with a height
of 6' 11". Freshman Eltaro Hooper (Ypsilanti,
Mich./Lincoln) placed second in the high jump with a height
of 6' 9.5". Guerrero also placed fourth in the long jump with
a distance of 22' 8.5". Hooper also was third in the triple
jump with a distance of 46' 0.5". Senior Jake Adams
(Corunna, Mich.) placed sixth in the shot put with a throw
of 51' 11".
