GUERRERO NAMED MVP IN FIELD EVENTS AT GLIAC'S

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The SVSU Cardinals finished third at the 2005 GLIAC Outdoor Championships with 116 points and senior Mario Guerrero (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) was named Male MVP in Field Events. Guerrero placed in the top four in three field events and won the high jump (6-7.5) and long jump (23-4.5) while finishing fourth in the triple jump (46-4.75). Guerrero earned 25 team points which was 22 percent of his team's total.
     Junior Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay City Western) was one of four athletes to finish second in their respective events with a time of 48.24 in the 400 dash. Senior Pedro Ortega (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) was runner-up in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:14.30). Sophomore Tony McDaniel (Yale, Mich.) threw the javelin a distance of 179-11 and the men scored 20 points in the javelin with Rob Samborn (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western) finishing fourth, Pete O'Brien (Davison, Mich./Flint Kearsley) finishing fifth and Steve Besson (Essexville, Mich./Garber) finishing sixth. Senior Jake Adams (Corunna, Mich.) placed second in the discus (163-0) and also was fifth in the shot put (51-8.5).
     Junior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) ran third in the 5000 meters and earned six team points with a time of 14:40.36. Freshman Eltaro Hooper (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) was the GLIAC champ in the triple jump with a distance of 47-10.5.
