Five Cardinals Qualify for National Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University track & field program will be sending five athletes to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. Competition will take place on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 and will be held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
     On the men's side, junior Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay City Western) will be competing in the 60 meter dash. He is currently ranked in a tie for 10th with a time of 6.80. The top time is 6.68 by Lincoln's Lerone Clarke. The 60 meter dash preliminaries will be contested at 6:15pm on March 11, while the 60 meter dash final will be run at 3:48pm on March 12.
     Junior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) will be competing in the one mile run. He is currently ranked 14th with a time of 4:11.50. Abilene Christian's Lucky Hadebe holds the top spot with a time of 4:05.56. Preliminaries will be run at 5:15pm on March 11 and the final will be run at 3:10 on March 12.
     Senior Mario Guerrero (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley ) and freshman Eltaro Hooper (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) each qualified in the high jump. Guerrero is ranked in a tie for 7th with a jump of 7' 0", while Hooper is in a tie for 12th at 6' 10.25". The top spot is held by Keith Moffat of Morehouse at 7' 1.75". The men's high jump competition will is set to begin at 3:15pm on March 11.
     On the women's side, senior Mary Jo Pouillon (Owosso, Mich.) qualified in the shot put. She ranks sixth with a throw of 46' 9", while April Burton of California State-Bakersfield holds the top spot at 48' 9". The women's shot put competition will take place at 11:00am on March 12.
