Men Do Well
at SVSU Invite
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.
- The Saginaw Valley State University men's track squad continued
to have a strong season, as they had many athletes take home top
tier finishes at the 17th Annual SVSU Invitational on Friday, (Jan.21).
The SVSU distance medley relay earned
a first place showing once again, as Jerome Recker (Port
Huron, Mich.), Bill Germain (Vassar, Mich.),
Len Weddel (East Tawas, Mich./Tawas Area) and
Paul Jozwiak (Berkley, Mich.) teamed up
to cross the finish line in 10:28.75. Germain then helped the 4X400
meter relay team to a second place finish (3:25.74), as he teamed
with Pete O'Brien (Flint, Mich./Kearsley),
Kenneth Williams (Ypsilanti, Mich), and
Justin Thomason (Port Huron, Mich.). Thomason
also earned a third place finish in the 400 meter dash (51.60).
Adam Roach (Port
Huron, Mich.) had a good night, taking home first place honors
in the 1600 meter run (4:20.96) and third place in the 3000 meter
run (8:58.28). Taking home first place in the 3000 meter run was
sophomore James Gale (Westland, Mich./Livonia
Churchill) as he ran a time of 8:45.80 for the Saginaw Track
Club.
In the field events Eltaro
Hooper (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) and Jake
Adams (Corunna, Mich.) both took home first place
finishes. Hooper won the high jump with a jump of 6-10'.00,'' while
Adams won the shot put with a toss of 50-0'.00.'' Mario
Guerrero (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) took
third place in the high jump (6-06'.00").
The Cards return to action on Friday, (Jan.28)
when they travel to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the Alltell Classic.
The meet is set to start at 4:30 p.m.
