Cardinals
Host GLIAC Championships
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley
State University hosted day one of the GLIAC Track & Field Championships
on May 2 at Morley Field. In men's competition, Grand Valley State
ended day one in first place with a total of 46 points, while the
Cardinal men were in sixth place with eleven points. In women's
competition, GVSU also ended day one in first with 61 points, while
the SVSU women were fourth with 30 points.
Senior Jame
Gardner (Saginaw, Mich./St. Charles HS) had the
best day one showing for the Cardinal men with a fourth place finish
in the javelin throw (165' 7"), while junior Rob Samborn
(Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) finished seventh (156'
8.5"). Senior Josh Harris (Clare, Mich.)
took a sixth place in the hammer throw (156' 2.5"), while senior
Jason Andrich (Marlette, Mich.) rounded
out the day one scoring for the Cardinals with an eighth place in
the hammer throw (151' 8").
Senior Nicole Sullivan
(Vassar, Mich.) claimed first place in the women's triple
jump (36' 11.75"), earning ten points for the Cardinals. Senior
Leah Burns (Capac, Mich.) earned a third
place in the pole vault (10' 8.25"), while sophomore Ashley
Christie (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn HS) vaulted
her way to a seventh (10' 4.25"). The Cardinals also had two
women place in the hammer throw, with sophomore Mary Jo
Pouillon (Owosso, Mich.) taking third (152' 11")
and freshman Ashley Bishop (Pickford, Mich.)
earning a sixth (145'). Sophomore Nikki Charbonneau (Macomb,
Mich./L'Anse Creuse HS) rounded out the Cardinal scoring for
day one with a sixth place finish in the javelin throw (108' 1").
Day two of the GLIAC Championships
gets underway on Saturday (May 3) with field events beginning at
11:00a.m. and running events beginning at noon. The action will
unfold at Morley Field in University Center, Mich.
