RUNNERS HONORED
FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – With the end of the 2003-04 school
year, the United States Track Coaches Association has announced
that the Saginaw Valley State women’s squad is a recipient
of the All-Academic Team award in Division II. The team had a combined
GPA of 3.151 under head coach Jim Nesbitt. In addition, three men’s
team members were selected as USTCA All-Academic honorees. Kyle
Rauschenberger (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western)
competed in the relay events this year and posted a 3.70 GPA in
secondary education. Jerome Recker (Port Huron,
Mich.) competed in the steeplechase during the outdoor season
and had a 3.76 GPA in computer science. Pedro Ortega
(Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) also ran in the steeplechase
and sported a 3.70 GPA in secondary education. The recipients must
have qualified either automatically or provisionally in the NCAA
Track and Field championships for this year to be eligible and post
at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA having taken at least 24 semester
hours.
