Cardinals Run Well
at Northwood Track Meet
MIDLAND, MICH. – Saginaw Valley had
a strong showing at the Northwood Open on Saturday, (May 1) as they
made the short journey to down the road to compete.
The meet was highlighted by Mandie
Gallier (Midland, Mich.), who took home three
first place performances, including one with her relay team in the
4X400 meter relay. She ran in the 800-meter run for the first time
this season and sprinted away from the competition with a time of
2:17.20, five seconds ahead of her nearest opponent. She also cruised
to another top finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.62.
Marquita Howard (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron)
had a fine afternoon also, picking up two individual second place
finishes in the 100-meter dash (12.66) and 200-meter dash (25.26)
and one third place in the 4X100 relay (50.39). Lisa Fair
(Troy, Mich./Athens) picked up a first place finish
in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.39 and teammate Krystin
Vogel (Ubly, Mich.)finished in second with a time
of 1:06.78. Mary Jo Pouillon (Owosso, Mich.)
continued to do well, as she took home first place in the shot put
with a throw of 44-03.50’’. Ashley Bishop
(Pickford, Mich.) picked up a second place in
the shot put with a throw of 42-08.75’’. Jen
Brogger (Harbor Springs, Mich./Harbor Springs HS)
managed to place first in the javelin, with a toss of 120-10.00’’.
On the men’s side Chris
Baranek (Kawkawlin, Mich./Western HS) showed his
speed as he took home first place honors in the 100-meter dash with
a time of 10.91. Lewis Gordon (Lansing, Mich./Everett)
ran strong as he also took home a first in the 400-meter run with
a time of 48.53. Mohammed Waite (East Lansing,
Mich.) grabbed a second place in the 800-meter run. Len
Waddel (East Tawas/Tawas Area) and Greg
Schmit (Leslie, Mich.) finished second and third
respectively in the 1500-meter run. Jon Hall (Pontiac/Central,
Mich.) took first place honors in the long jump with a jump
of 22-00.25’’.
