SVSU MEN
WIN THREE EVENTS AT MICHIGAN STATE SPARTAN INVITATIONAL
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Cardinals track
and field squads competed on Saturday at the Michigan State Spartan
Invitational and saw the men's team place first in three events.
Sophomore Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay
City Western) claimed a first-place finish in the 100 meter
dash (10.85), defeating 15 other competitors. Senior Pedro
Ortega (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) finished fourth
in the 800 meters (1:56.32) and later on in the day won the 3000
meter steeplechase in a time of 9:35.45. The 4x400 meter relay squad
comprised of Kyle Rauschenberger (Auburn, Mich./Bay
City Western), Baranek, Bill Germain (Vassar,
Mich.) and Justin Thomason (Port Huron,
Mich.) also placed first at 3:20.80.
On the women's side, the 4x400 meter relay
team comprised of Lisa Fair (Troy, Mich./Athens),
Krystin Vogel (Ubly, Mich.), Jessica
Sweeney (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) and Ashley
Christie (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) won the
event in a time of 4:16.36. Ashley Bishop (Pickford,
Mich.) placed second in the hammer throw with a distance of
159' 1". Junior Nikki Charbonneau (Macomb,
Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) placed fourth in the javelin throw
with a distance of 108' 6".
