BISHOP BREAKS HER OWN SCHOOL
RECORD IN THE WEIGHT THROW AND THE CARDINALS RUN STRONG AT FINDLAY
OPEN
FINDLAY, Ohio
– Sophomore Ashley Bishop (Pickford,
Mich.) bested her own school record for the second straight
week as she threw the weight 54’ 5.25” and placed fifth
at the Findlay Open on Friday, February 13. Bishop currently ranks
10th nationally in her attempt to qualify for the Division II Indoor
Nationals. The top 12 qualify for the event at nationals held on
March 12-13. Other top finishers on the women’s side included
junior Mandie Gallier (Midland, Mich.)
who won the 400 meters (57.95) defeating several Division I competition.
Junior Nikki Charbonneau
(Macomb, Mich./L’Anse Creuse North) placed fourth
in the 600 meters with a time of 1:46.64. Freshman Jessica
Sweeney (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) placed second
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.96. Senior Diane Johnston
(Grand Blanc, Mich.) placed second in the 3000 meters in
a time of 10:40.45. The 4X400 meter relay comprised of Lisa
Fair (Troy, Mich./Athens), Krystin Vogel
(Ubly, Mich.), Sweeney and Gallier won the event with a
time of 4:06.81 some five seconds ahead of the next team.
Lewis Gordon (Lansing,
Mich./Everett) won the 600 meters (1:23.29) and the Cardinals
also took third with Mohommed Waite (East Lansing,
Mich.) in a time of 1:23.76 and Paul Jozwiak
(Berkley, Mich.) placed fourth at 1:24.46. Senior Pedro
Ortega (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) won the 800
meters at 1:57.32 and Jerrod Colvin (Roscommon,
Mich.) finished second at 1:57.76. Freshman James Gale
(Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill) won the mile run in
a time of 4:22.66. The 4X400 meter relay placed second at 3:22.29
comprised of Kyle Rauschenberger (Auburn, Mich./Bay
City Western), Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin,
Mich./Bay City Western), Gordon and Bill Germain
(Vassar, Mich.). Baranek also placed second in the 55-meter
dash at 6.46.
