CARDINALS
PLACE FIRST IN TWO EVENTS AT THE FINDLAY INDOOR CLASSIC
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University track and field squads travelled to Findlay, Ohio
on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Findlay Indoor Classic.
Sophomore Ashley Bishop (Pickford, Mich.)
set a school-record in the weight throw with a distance of 53' 10.5"
breaking the record held by Mindy Ramsey in 1999. Other results
from the women's side included a third-place finish in the 55 meter
hurdles by Mandie Gallier (Midland, Mich.)
who completed the event in a time of 8.49. Diane Johnston
(Grand Blanc, Mich.) finished fourthwith a time of 19:11.63
in the 5000 meter run. Ashley Christie (Bay
City, Mich.) and Ryann Smith (Almont,
Mich.) both tied for sixth in the pole vault clearing 10' 4".
Other top finishes included a seventh place finish by Jenna
Gaines (Breckenridge, Mich.) in the 55 meter dash
with a time of 7.46. The ladies 4X800 relay also finished sixth
clocking out at 9:50.97.
The men's team was led
by a first place finish in the Distance Medley by Jerome
Recker (Port Huron, Mich.), Lewis Gordon
(Lansing, Mich.), Mohommed Waite (East
Lansing, Mich.), and Pedro Ortega (Saginaw,
Mich.), finishing in a time of 10:23.34. Jerome Recker would
also go on to finish seventh in the one mile with a time of 4:27.24,
while Lewis Gordon would tie for sixth in the high jump leaping
6' 4.75". Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin, Mich.)
received fourth place in the 200 meter clocking 22.54 and also a
seventh place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.51. Jake
Adams (Corunna, Mich) finished fourth in the shot
put with a distance of 47' 1.75" while Jason Andrich
(Marlette, Mich.) finish sixth in the weight throw
with a distance of 52' 0". Other notables were Paul
Jozwiak (Berkley, Mich) with a fifth place in
the 800 (1:58.83) and Ryan Norman (Linden,
Mich.) with a seventh place finish in the 600 (1:23.29). The
men's 4X400 and 4X800 teams both took fourth with times of 3:29.72
and 7:56.59 respectively.
