CARDINALS
COMPETE AT CENTRAL MICHIGAN OPEN
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The
women's and men's track & field squads competed at the Central
Michigan University Open on Friday and tuned up for the GLIAC Championships
next week in Findlay, Ohio. The men's highest finishers were Lewis
Gordon (Lansing, Mich./Everett) in the 400 meters
placing second (49.45), Jon Hall (Pontiac,
Mich./Central) in the long jump (2nd, 22' 1/4") and Mohommed
Waite (East Lansing, Mich.) in the 800 meters
(2nd, 1:56.60). In addition, Jason Andrich (Marlette,
Mich.) placed third in the weight throw with a distance of
53' 5 1/2". Chris Baranek (Kawkawlin,
Mich./Bay City Western) was a provisional qualifier and broke
the school-record in the 60 meter dash finishing fourth (6.88).
Mandie Gallier (Midland,
Mich.) won the 400 meters on the ladies' side and was a provisional
qualifier (57.10). Ashley Bishop (Pickford,
Mich.) claimed first in the weight throw breaking her own school-record
for the fourth time (55'). Beth Rasmussen (Port
Huron, Mich.) tied for first in the high jump (5' 1")
which was her best indoor effort this season. The 4x400 meter relay
team won in a time of 4:01.09, anchored by Gallier. Ryann
Smith (Almont, Mich.) tied for second in the pole
vault at a height of 10' 11 3/4".
