Score in 2-0 Win Over Madonna
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University
men’s soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Madonna University
on Tuesday (October 26) in the final home game of the season. The
following nine Cardinals played their final home game in front of
138 fans: Grant Pierce (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial),
Stephen Walker (Manchester, England),
Alex Christenson (Flint, Mich./Kearsley),
Jerrod Colvin (Roscommon, Mich.), Kyle
Grant (Milton, Ontario/Bishop Reding), Jeremy
Ignace (Grand Blanc, Mich.), Claudio Cicchetti
(Ancaster, Ontario/St. Thomas Moore), John
Korhonen (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic), and Josh
Mosser (Haslett, Mich.).
Walker scored his first goal of the
season on a direct free kick at 20:04 that proved to be the winning
goal. Kyle Grant added an insurance goal at 54:47 on an assist
from junior Cale Wassermann (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham
Groves).
The Cardinals only allowed eight Madonna
shots and five shots on goal, while SVSU managed 16 total shots
and nine shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Eric Carnes
(Portage, Mich./Northern) tallied five saves and
went the distance in net to earn his second shutout of the season.
The Cardinals improved their record
to 4-5-2, while Madonna falls to 8-5-1. SVSU returns to action
on Saturday (October 30) with a road game against Ashland. Game
time is set for 2:00p.m.
