                                   Cardinals Earn All-GLIAC Honors

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Seven members of the men’s and women’s soccer teams were awarded All-GLIAC honors for their performance throughout the 2004 season. The men had five members voted on, while the women recorded two players for the postseason accolades.
     On the women’s side, Jennifer Prior (Flushing, Mich.) was voted first-team All-GLIAC, while Ashleigh Burke (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) earned second-team honors. Prior was the leading scorer on the year for the Cards, scoring 27 points on twelve goals and three assists. She averaged 2.08 points per game. In league play she scored eight goals and assisted on two others, for 18 points, an average of 2.25 points per game. Burke scored four goals on the year, for eight points. She also netted two game-winning goals on the year.
     For the men, seniors Claudio Cicchetti (Ancaster, Ont./St. Thomas Moore HS) and Kyle Grant (Milton, Ont./Bishop Reding HS) both earned first-team honors along with junior Cale Wassermann (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham Groves HS). Grant Pierce (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS) and Jared Riepma (Midland, Mich.) both were voted to second-team.
     Grant led the team with eleven points, recording five goals, including one game-winner and one assist. Wassermann was second on the team with three goals and four assists for ten points. Cicchetti had three goals and an assist on the year, and two of his goals were game-winners. Pierce played well in the net for the Cardinals, posting a 2-4-1 record on the year, while recording a goals against average of 2.13. He had a .724 save percentage while playing 675:50 minutes in goal. Riepma recorded two goals and an assist for five points.
