                                 Cardinals Earn Win in Overtime

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer team played catch up much of the day, scoring goals to tie up the game twice, but when it counted most they scored first. Claudio Cicchetti (Ancaster, Ontario/St. Thomas Moore)knocked a header into the net in overtime to give the Cards a victory over Saint Joseph’s College 3-2.
    Saint Joseph’s scored first at 26:13 in the first to go up 1-0, but Josh Mosser (Haslett, Mich.) scored at 40:13 to tie things up at 1 apiece before halftime. The game remained tied until Saint Joseph’s scored in the 77th minute of play to give them a 2-1 lead. The lead wouldn’t last long, as Cale Wassermann (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham Groves HS) headed a goal to the back of the net in the 86th minute to tie it up a 2-2 and force overtime. In overtime Cicchetti scored his gamewinner with 2:12 left on the clock off a pass from Stephen Walker (Manchester, Eng./Phillips HS) to give SVSU a 3-2 win.
    The Cards move to 2-1-1 on the season with the victory. SVSU returns to action on Tues., Sept. 14 as they travel to Alma to play the Scots. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
