Cardinals Top Scots In Overtime

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer team won a 2-1 decision in overtime over the visiting Alma Scots on Saturday (September 20). SVSU’s Robert Alexander (Midland, Mich.) scored the game winner in the 99th minute.
The Cardinals’ Josh Mosser (Haslett, Mich.) opened the scoring in the 29th minute, coming on an assist from freshman Ryan Norman (Linden, Mich.). The Scots came right back, however, tying the game just over a minute later with a goal from Nick Kost. The two squads were scoreless throughout the rest of regulation, forcing a ten-minute overtime period.
With 1:58 showing on the overtime clock, Alexander scored off a corner kick from sophomore Cale Wassermann (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham Groves HS). The goal was Alexander’s first game winner of the season.
Senior Adrian Thomas (Marval, Trinidad & Tobago) played the entire game in goal for the Cardinals. Thomas allowed only one goal, while recording six saves on the afternoon.
With the win, the Cardinals move to 5-1 on the season. SVSU returns to action on October 1 at Tiffin University. The game is set to begin at 4:00p.m.
