Cardinals Shutout Senators 5-0

ELKINS, W.Va. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team picked up its fifth win and second shutout of the season with a 5-0 victory over Davis and Elkins College on Friday (Sept. 27).
    Junior Stephen Walker (Manchester, England) opened the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute on a pass from junior Paul Thomas (Manchester, Eng.). Sophomore Josh Mosser (Haslett, Mich.) and freshman Mario Theodorou (London, Eng.) each scored to give the Cardinals a three-goal halftime lead. Walker netted his second goal of the game in the 55th minute of play, this time on an assist by freshman Eric Whelton (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS). Freshman Jared Riepma (Bolivia) capped off the Cardinal scoring with a tally in the 89th minute of play, preserving the five-goal victory.
    Junior Grant Pierce (Franklin, Mich./Centennial HS) only needed two saves to manufacture his second shutout of the season. The win bumps the Cardinals record to 5-2 on the season.
    SVSU returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 27) when the Cardinals visit University of Charleston at 2:00pm.
